One of the most impressive programs in the “collect ‘n earn” space is TerraCycle. Their cleverly organized collection brigades help recover and upcycle products from various consumer goods to keep the packaging out of the waste stream. In so doing, TerraCycle harnesses the “pester power” of school children to influence their parents’ brand choices. As of this writing, over 30,000 collection brigades have collected over one million waste units and at two cents apiece, raised some $230,000 for schools and charitable organizations.
Beginning Earth Day, 2011, EcoBonus.org will “crowdsource” brand preference by enabling consumers and community groups to earn points when they purchase your environmentally preferable products.
EcoBonus points may be donated to environmental organizations such as the Sierra Club and the Nature Conservancy or may be accumulated for rewards that green homes and offices or ecotour holidays that promote volunteerism in natural or cultural environments.
BI’s unique reward-code technology adds a “next generation” twist to these programs by tracking each consumer’s product purchase, giving sponsoring manufacturers unprecedented visibility and access to their consumers plus the tools to interact with them promotionally via the web, email, text and twitter.
